Register a domain name / web address - how to buy a domain name

- This is probably the most popular and the most easy-to-use domain registration service of all - makes it as easy as possible to register a web address, even if you are a complete beginner and doing it for the first time.  You can register .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, .mobi, .tv, .name, .eu, .co.uk, .asia, and many more domain name extension types.  You can search for your preferred domain name here -

Some advice about buying domain names -

Always use a reliable and accredited domain service like godaddy.com above.

Never allow a cheap web hosting service to control your domain name; buy the domain name before you do anything else, then change the nameservers to point to the host's servers later.

If possible, think of a great new name yourself: type it into the URL field of your browser to see if you get a "Cannot display the web page"' message. This usually means the name is still free, and you can register it.

Most dictionary words are now taken as domain names, but there are many other options for good names - slang words, technical words, two or three word hyphenations, and best of all, local place names - look at a large scale map of your area: the chances are, most of the local feature names will not be taken yet.

If you really want a particular domain name and the .com version is taken, try the other available extensions like .net or .org or .info.

Think carefully before buying a name that is already registered - most of them are grossly overpriced by speculative sellers.

At the time of purchasing your domain name, you can pay a little bit extra to hide your name and address and email details (as the owner of the domain) from public view; if you don't do this you may get tons of spam, or crank emails if your site is controversial in any way.

Good luck - you can own a good domain in a few minutes from now (start at Godaddy above)!
